How to Read a Certificate of Analysis (COA)

Published October 15, 2026

A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, is the lab report that shows what was actually found in a sample of a product. Every tested DryV product links to its COA from Freedom Diagnostics, an independent testing lab. This guide walks through each section so you can read one with confidence.

The header

The top of the report identifies the sample and the lab work:

  • Client: the company that submitted the sample, DryV LLC.
  • Accession number and search code: unique identifiers for that specific test. You can use them to look the report up directly with the lab.
  • Received and reported dates: when the lab received the sample and when results were issued.
  • Lot: the production batch the sample came from.

Sample summary

This is the quick read of the results:

  • Product: the compound and vial size that was tested.
  • Identity: "Confirmed" means the lab verified the sample is the compound listed on the label.
  • Purity: the percentage of the sample made up of the target compound, measured by HPLC.
  • Net content: the measured amount of compound in the vial. A small overfill above the labeled amount is common and expected.
  • Appearance: what the sample looked like, such as white lyophilized powder.

Many reports also include a screening result, such as "No Fentanyl Detected."

The chromatogram

The chromatogram is the graph produced by HPLC testing. Each peak represents a substance separating out of the sample over time. A clean report shows one tall, sharp peak labeled with the compound name and little else, which is what a high purity percentage looks like visually.

Mass confirmation

The mass spectrometry section confirms identity by weight. The peaks are labeled with the compound name and notations such as [M+H]+ or [M+2H]2+, which describe the molecule carrying one or two extra charges. When those peaks line up with the known molecular weight of the compound, identity is confirmed.

Verify it yourself

Every COA carries a QR code and search code that link back to the lab's own records, so you never have to take our word for it. You can find every posted COA on our Lab Results page.
