Melanotan I, also known as afamelanotide, is a 13 amino acid synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone. It differs from the natural sequence at two positions, with norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7. It was developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s.
