How Should Lyophilized Peptides Be Stored and Shipped?

Published October 19, 2026

Lyophilized peptides should be stored cold, dry, and away from light. For short term storage, a refrigerator at 2 to 8°C works well. For longer term storage, many labs keep vials frozen at minus 20°C. Because the peptide is a freeze dried powder rather than a liquid, it also holds up well during normal shipping times.

Why Freeze Drying Helps

Lyophilization removes water from the peptide under vacuum at low temperature. Water drives many of the reactions that break peptides down, so removing it makes the powder far more stable than the same peptide in solution. Our article on lyophilization covers the process in more detail.

Storage Before Reconstitution

Keep vials sealed until use. Protect them from light, heat, and moisture. Let a cold vial reach room temperature before opening it so condensation does not form inside.

Storage After Reconstitution

Once a peptide is mixed into solution it becomes much less stable. Reconstituted material is typically kept refrigerated and used within a limited window. Repeated freezing and thawing can damage the peptide, so many labs split solutions into smaller portions.

How DryV Ships

DryV ships every order with USPS within 24 hours of payment. Lyophilized powder tolerates the few days of transit a normal order takes. Store vials cold once they arrive. Shipping times and costs are covered in our FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should lyophilized peptides be stored?

Cold, dry, and away from light. Refrigeration at 2 to 8°C works for short term storage, and minus 20°C is common for longer term storage.

Do lyophilized peptides need to ship on ice?

Freeze dried powder generally handles normal transit times well. Store vials cold once they arrive.
